We stayed in Belgium for two weeks while we were in our full-time digital nomad era. We booked an Airbnb about 10 minutes outside of the Old Town next to a lively cafe, where we would work during the days before venturing out to the restaurants, cocktail bars, and Christmas market in the evenings.
It's the home of Belgian waffles and Belgian chocolate, so what's not to love. We did a walking tour to learn about the history, Grand Palace, and the famous (or infamous?) Manneken Pis, a small statue of a boy peeing into fountains everywhere across town. (Yes, it's as odd as it sounds haha.) One day we took a train to Bruges, a smaller, charming town that everyone recommends.
Belgium gave us our first taste of European Christmas markets, which we would make a tour of a few years later through Prague, Vienna, Bratislava, and Budapest. While winter is probably not the ideal season to make the most of Belgium, we honestly thoroughly enjoyed our cozy days there and would go back just for the waffles.
