Argentina is one of those places we liked so much that, the first time we went there, we actually cancelled our next destination to be able to spend more time there. Buenos Aires took us by total surprise. It felt like Paris in South America — elegant old-world architecture, leafy streets, late-night dinner culture, and some of the best steak in the world.
The first time we stayed in Buenos Aires, we booked an Airbnb for a few weeks in the charming Recoleta neighborhood, followed by a high-rise condo steps away from a WeWork (perfect for the season of business we were in those days).
On the nights and weekends, we toured the artistic Boca neighborhood, took an Asado cooking class, and ate our way through the city at restaurants like Tanta, La Pescadorita, Las Pizaras, Fervor, and a cocktail bar posing as a wine and flower shop, Floreria Atlantico. We even took tango classes! One of the nights out at an Argentinean milonga (dance club) Jessica accidentally won a bottle of champagne for the entire table (just the attention she loves to draw, haha). The place was packed with seniors so we were pretty popular picks for dance partners... apparently it's the place to be for active elders at 5 p.m.
When we returned to Buenos Aires years later, it was just for a few nights before voyaging further south to Antarctica. If we were to go back to that region again, we’d check out Mendoza or venture even further south to Patagonia.
